Are you serious dude? In the infinite scope of the US legal system/courts… do you honestly expect someone’s answer on here from one of the “armchair lawyers” to get you out of a ticket?
The best way to avoid the ticket would have been to slow down and hit the brakes in the first place.
This is a single car accident with no injuries or damage to any property other than yours?
I would enter a Not Guilty plea. My explanation would be that I tried to avoid an animal and simply lost control of the car. Point out that you are the only one who suffered any damage and the ticket is just rubbing salt in the wound.
Did you tell the officer that you were speeding because you were late for work? That’s probably what generated the ticket. If you had told the officer you were trying to avoid the animal and lost control, there’s a good chance no ticket would have been issued.
If you are really concerned about the ticket on your record, you have nothing to lose by going to court over it. Keep your story to trying to avoid the animal and lost control. Then hope the officer does not remember you told him you were speeding and late for work. The business with the lights is an old groaner the judge has heard a zillion times, don’t use it.
Talk to the court before going in front of the judge and state that you would be willing to go on probation for a year andyou will not get any tickets within that time period and you might be able to get it off your record
go to traffic school
YOU are responsible for knowing the speed limit wherever you are.
YOU are responsible for driving in a manner that would allow you to miss hitting a skunk, or make the choice to hit the skunk to avoid an accident.
YOU are responsible for your own driving record, in all it’s glory.
YOU need to step up to the plate and stop blaming skunks, saying “you didn’t know” the speed limit (boo hoo)….
And yet, in your mind, we’re supposed to pat you on the back for getting to work on time? I’d rather you woke up 15 minutes earlier and drove more safely.
