“How do you avoid getting speeding tickets?” – Easy. I obey the speed limit. Works EVERY time.

Quotas are a fallacy, as are the “end of the month” theories. The color of your car doesn’t matter either.

There are no tricks, nothing in particular officers look for. It is simply a matter of timing… a speeding car and an officer in the same area at the same time.

Simple! Don’t speed.

Drive the posted speed limit. It won’t get any more informed than that.

Cruise control.

Single- threaded – no multitasking.

Radar detectors – I never drive without one – in the city they are pointless, but once you get out in the country – saved my butt several times – also I always try to stay out of the left lane and always behind a few people – I’ll drive slow until I find someone I can follow.

As the others have said, don’t stand out. Just be another sheep, not the wolf. If you drive the same roads, figure out where they like to be, and what cities areas have more of them on the highways then others. Bridges and overpasses are favorite hiding spots. Behind bushes or trees in the middle as well.

If traffic conditions allow, I consistently engage my cruise control when my car has achieved the posted limit. It not only prevents speeding tickets but it also saves gas. If you want to get someplace sooner leave earlier. Driving the speed limits save lives.

There are no quotas, we can write as many tickets as we want to. The best way to avoid a speeding ticket is to drive the speed limit

Learn the places that they like to sit.

Watch traffic – if you see people slowing down, there might be a cop. Don’t be the idiot that goes flying by the rest of the cars only to get pulled over.

They love to sit at the bottom of hills, where you might be going a bit faster.

You should generally try to match speed with the other cars around you. Even if the cars are going a bit fast, it is dangerous to be the one car going slow.

I drive too fast most of the time, I usually avoid tickets through pure dumb luck, but paying extra attention never hurts.

I don’t think they do. I have had all of ONE speeding ticket, and I’ve been driving for about 17 years.

Now for how to avoid speeding tickets, the answer is obvious. Don’t speed.

I myself try very hard to not speed, even if everyone else is. They’ll have a better chance at a deadly accident. No speeding just because everyone else is. Like the old saying goes, if everyone else jumps off a bridge, will you?

If you have a good reason, give it to the officer immediately. I got a heavy speeding ticket after flooring the gas to avoid being crushed between two semi-trailers when one decided to change lanes and didn’t see me.

I was so shaken that it wasn’t until the officer wrote the ticket that I told him what happened. He couldn’t “unwrite it” so I had to go to court. They still gave me a moving violation although no points and next to no fine. My insurance still went up.

The officer would have let me go if I would have told him right away, he said.

Being a retired traffic officer in a rural state, the best advice is to not get noticed by the police. Don’t be going a whole lot faster than anyone else. Don’t weave through traffic and above all, make sure all your lights work and your car is not noisy.
I could find something to write on ANY car but if the driver didn’t do anything to attract my attention, I was never attracted to stop the car.

Okay….okay…..I think I can get this one………..Hmmmmm……..No, this is a tougher question than I thought!!!!

gomanyes562 September 1, 2010 at 11:04 am

I’ve never got a speeding ticket. I can’t say I never speed, but I never go more than 5-7 mph over the limit, and I never speed for extended amounts of time. If I realize I’m over, I let go of the gas and get back down.

Test September 1, 2010 at 11:43 am

Slow down

Pay more attention to your speedometer. Quotas are illegal. We can write as many or as few as we want.
