I don’t know about the laws in Cali but call the prosecutors office in the county where the citation was issued. Ask to speak with a lawyer that prosecutes the traffic cases and ask him/her what, if anything, you can do to smooth things over.

Good luck.

you don’t even have to talk to the prosecuting lawyer..just go to the county clerk’s office and tell him about your situation.
ushally he’ll smooth things out. (I got my 400$ speeding ticket pulled down to 70$!)

In Michigan, you would go to court on the ticket and argue it. Usually the judge will waive the ticket but make you pay “court costs”. This amount is the same as the initial fine, but you won’t receive a moving violation, therefore no points, therefore no insurance hike. The courts don’t care about putting points on your license, they just want the money.

Traffic school has nothing to do with guilty or not guilty. When the court sends you the notice regarding your ticket, one of your options will be to go to traffic school. (If for some reason you go to court instead, you can just say you want traffic school.) If you choose that, you will have to pay the fine plus a traffic school fee, and you will have to pay for the school as well. However, when the court gets the traffic school completion certificate, the ticket is dismissed, and the report of that action to the DMV is confidential (your insurance company does not see it).

In most counties, this all can be handled on line. Otherwise, it is usually through the mail.
