Is it illegal to flash oncoming drivers with your headlights to warn them of a speed trap?

No answers are, I can not believe all the idiots in stupid opinions, theories and buillshi *. I suggest you just stop wasting my time and beating your stupid shoes. Is it illegal or not? A simple answer of a word is sufficient if it is correct.

Yeah that would probably get you a ticket. Especially with this economic state we are in, the states need money.

Technically, yes. It would be “Obstruction of Justice”.

In Ohio it is illegal to flash your brights at other drivers.
Regardless of your purpose.

Ordinarily flashing your lights at an oncoming driver means they should turn their headlights on, as well. They probably won’t know what you mean if you do it for a speed trap.

And if they are dumb enough to be speeding anyway, let ‘em get a ticket.

It probably is. Once I’m past the speed trap, then no one can see if I am flashing my headlights or not.

There is no specific law against it. However, you will be ticketed for faulty equipment, possibly reckless endangerment (having high beams on with oncoming traffic), if there is enough evidence that the car warned was a fleeing felon or something along those lines then yes you can get charged with Obstruction of Justice and aiding and abetting.

EDIT: ou812, another ignorant statement. The “ticketing system” is set to generate revenue, yes but also as a punishment system for violators to make them think twice about speeding or committing other traffic violations again. The money generated is used for road maintenance, highway projects, state building maintenance, Court fees, Public Defenders fees (I’m sure you’ll need or have used one), and countless other necessities that you take for granted as a “hassled citizen”.

Technically yes.

2 reasons
-obsrtucting
-(if it’s dark) failure to dim for oncoming traffic?

POPEYE; I AM SORRY, I wish could say for certain, I have been pulled over for failure to dim my lights within 500′ of an oncoming officer. There were extenuating circumstances involved.( Bad Cop) the obstructing would have to be proved, but it’s his word against yours.

Note; Kebert, I do this OFTEN. Not because I want other drivers to speed but because the “ticket system” is set up to make money for the state, NOT INSURE THE SAFETY OF IT’S RESIDENTS.
-also, I’ll stop doing this when police officers give tickets to other police officers, judges and families of such. Remove the biased preferences and make it equal.
I have no respect for the police of our nation currently.

illegal ? in most areas, yes…

would you get pulled for it… probably not, it would depend on the area, and whether or not a cop actually saw you flash your lights…

Out in the country I do it most of the time, even to warn of road construction or an road hazzard in the lane, like cows or horses…

Most of the time tho the idiot driving toward you has no idea what you are doing..

So flashing oncoming drivers would somehow notify them that there is an oncoming “speed trap?” If I was the oncoming driver, I’d be wondering why you were flashing me. How in teh world would anyone know what you mean when you flash them?

How about you stop speeding and start worrying about yourself instead of telling people about “speed traps?”

The police will try to give you a ticket for anything that they can. The states and cities need more money. People have been flashing their headlights to warn of police running radar for many decades. Its not as common anymore because drivers are not as courteous now days as they once were. People only care about themselves. Just like back in the day when the driver approaching behind you was traveling faster than you it was courteous to move over to let them pass. I still flash my lights to warn other drivers of the speed traps and I sometimes see a few other drivers still doing the same! I do not speed and most of the drivers that I flash are not speeding either. I still give them a heads up. For those who say it’s obstructing justice you are stupid! I am helping keep a part of the road safe. By warning those other drivers it makes them slow down ( if they are speeding ) and drive with more caution!

No it is not illegal, because it would be impossible to prove that the reason you flashed them was to “Obstruct Justice”.
