Tomtom safety camera feature?

Does anyone have experience with the camera option on the security apparatus TomTom? It was a free download so I’ll pick it up, but can not try yet been decided. Anyway, I was wondering what everyone took to fetch. Speed cameras? red light cameras? I am a bit confused about all this to be honest. Also, how does the TomTom “know” about these cameras? Is there something like a radar detector would pick up or have stored in the TomTom community by people at random? Thank you Steve. I noticed that you mentioned that you paid for this application? I downloaded free way or another. This may be a kind of free trial?

It’s brilliant, I have the “safety cameras” and use it all the time even when I have no route planned.
The cameras are “spotted” and logged by other Tomtom users with blue tooth connection between their device and phone. When a given number of people have spotted a camera Tomtom put it on the data base, then people like me pay a monthly subscription to download and keep up to date.
A down side is long term cameras in road works (like the section of the M1) show up for some months after the work is finished and the cameras are removed.
You need to use a little common sense, given some 250 / 300 metres notice you can almost always see any cameras Tomtom warns of.

Ah ha unmamfqlm I see you’re in the US.
Not sure how it works in there but in the UK all cameras are painted bright yellow so you can see them easily. They are not hidden like in some countries.

In short I would not be without it.
