what will happen if California police pull you over for speed and they didn’t lock your speed in their radar?

I pulled over and asked the officer to show me to the radar look at my speed, but when he show me the radar had it not my speed in the radar screen. and he said he did not have my speed in the radar.

The officer had no obligation to show you the readout. He meant that he didn’t have the speed reading right on the screen to show you. But he will testify about what the radar read at the time that you passed through the radar beam.

He had to have had your speed on his radar in order to pull you over – UNLESS he gave a ticket for “driving too fast for conditions” or “following to closely”. Some states also have other exceptions.

You should also be aware that because a number doesn’t show in the radar gun, doesn’t mean you weren’t clocked – just that the number wasn’t saved on the display. Most states have no requirement for the cop to show you the radar gun display when ticketing you. I can promise you, you wont get out of the ticket because the cop couldn’t show you the number on the display.

After each shift, all radar gun information is automatically uploaded to police central computers – where it is kept for varying amounts of time (depending on the crime, local laws, where the crime occurred, etc).

He will give you a ticket

Nothing requires an officer to “lock” a speed. All an officer has to do is testify he observed you speeding and confirmed with his radar.

Not sure where the poster above me has worked. But no department I know of saves and uploads radar readings. I’ve never seen a radar with the capability to even do that.
