I am going to buy my girlfriend a radar detector for christmas and Im deciding in between two different ones. one is a 12 band and the other is 14 band. If I get the one that is a couple bands lower will it matter? Will it depend on whats used in my area?

No if you go with the one with a couple bands lower it wont make a huge difference. Also you may check to see if laser jammers are illegal in your area, they are good to have since cops are now starting to use laser instead of radar in some areas and states.
