I’m with you – people won’t get tickets if they don’t speed. And if you loan your car out and the borrower gets a ticket for you – well, too bad. Don’t loan out your car. I think speed cameras and red light cameras are a good thing.
I oppose the cameras and I don’t speed. I oppose them for the same reasons I oppose other forms of monitoring individuals. They really are an invasion of privacy. I don’t want cameras on the street corners watching people. I don’t want GPS tracking in vehicles so a vehicle can be tracked on the road. I simply see it as another form of government monitoring of individuals. People complain about the government monitoring private phone calls and emails trying to catch terrorists. This is the same type of monitoring.
What will be the next thing that the government monitors? Do you know there are proposals before some state governments to monitor the number of miles you drive so they can tax you for road usage? This system would log every time you got into your car and went somewhere. They would know where you went and when you went there.
CRAZY LARRY: You are stereotyping. I argue against seat belt and helmet laws for adults. If I were in an accident, I would expect my insurance or the other person’s insurance to cover damages and medical expenses. Nothing more. I wouldn’t be running to an attorney to trying to get rich. I understand them for children since children can not protect themselves. Adults are responsible for their own actions.
EDIT: Why are you asking a question if you only want answers from people that agree with you? The fact is – there are many people who oppose speeding cameras because they HAVE personal responsibility and don’t think the government should be monitoring every step they make. The fact is that these speed cameras aren’t designed to stop people from speeding. They are designed to collect money for the local government. A person can get a hundred camera speeding tickets and as long as they can keep paying for them they can keep speeding. How does that make it safer?
They are the same people who argue against seat belts and helmet laws.
But they are the first ones banging on the lawyer’s door in the morning if they get hurt in an accident.
And some just like tilting against windmills.
I just call them ”whack jobs”.
You are 100% correct. And, by the way, I too oppose helmet and seat belt laws. It ought to be MY choice.
A couple of my kids were running around Phoenix last year and THEY got a ticket in the mail for speeding…….MY answer? you shouldn’t a been speeding.
